Norway book Europe's last spot, holders England eliminated

  • Norway secure place at next year's U-20 World Cup

  • Qualified with 3-0 win over England at UEFA U-19 Championship

  • U-20 World Cup holders England will not defend their title in Poland

Norway booked Europe's last ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup Poland 2019 after they defeated England 3-0 in the play-offs at the UEFA Under-19 Championship Finland 2018.

Three second-half goals saw the Norwegians beat the U-20 World Cup holders and qualify for the global finals at that age level for the first time since 1993. Erik Botheim scored the opening goal in the 75th minute before strikes from substitute Eman Markovic and Jens Petter Hauge sealed the victory for coach Pal Arne Johansen's side.

The result means U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 champions England will not get a chance to defend their world title at the age level.

Norway will be joined by fellow European sides France, Italy, Portugal, Ukraine and hosts Poland at next year's world finals, which will take place from 23 May to 15 June 2019.
