Mile and Luka modify the players’ leaderboard

  • Modric and Rakitic were the biggest stars of a scintillating show

  • Eriksen, Jedinak, Mbappe and Subasic also thrived

  • Coutinho, Iwobi, Neymar, Shaqiri and Tadic are among the Day 9 captain options

Day 8 belonged to the 14 men in the Coat of Arms-themed, blue-and-dark-navy chequered jerseys. Eight of them scored five-plus points in the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup™ Fantasy. Two of them – Luka Modric (€9m) and Ivan Rakitic (€8.5m) – seized a Thursday-high eight points, which took the former joint-fourth on the overall standings, alongside Diego Costa (16 points) and behind Jose Gimenez (18), Denis Cheryshev (20) and the machine that is Cristiano Ronaldo (22).

Christian Eriksen (€9m) followed up a six-point performance against Peru with a seven-point one against Australia, for whom bargain buy Mile Jedinak (€6m) made it back-to-back sevens. Fantasy managers who utilized Kylian Mbappe (€9m) will also be satisfied.

Change your captain

Round 2 matches will take place over six days, and you can change your captain ahead of each one. Only the player that finishes Round 2 in your armband will score double points.

So, if you have Luka Modric or Mo Salah in your armband, you may not want to risk making a change. But if your skipper did not do as well as planned, you probably want to select a new one before the Day 9 deadline (14:00 CET on Friday).

Teams boasting Alfred Finnbogason, Alex Iwobi, Neymar, Philippe Coutinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Dusan Tadic are in action on Day 9. And if you choose one of them, and he doesn’t do well, you can always change your captain again ahead of the Day 10 deadline (14:00 CET on Saturday).

Make substitutions

If a player in your starting XI didn’t perform well, you can substitute him out for a player on your bench who hasn’t yet played. However, if you want to bring in Gabriel Jesus for Lionel Messi, you have up until the kick-off of the first game of the day (14:00 CET on Friday).
