Spain's leaders rise to occasion in commanding win over Korea Republic

Spain cruised to a 4-0 win over Korea Republic in their opening match in Group D at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Uruguay 2018, thanks largely to two of their most experienced players in captain Eva Navarro and forward Claudia Pina.

After a rather open beginning to the match, including a shot against the Spanish crossbar from Gwak Royeong, Navarro scored the game's first goal with a composed finish after latching on to a deft through ball played over the top from Salma Paralluelo.

La Rojita then ran away with the match in the second half. Pina and Paola Hernandez both took advantage of some miscommunication in the Korea Republic backline with close-range finishes of their own to put Spain three goals in front.

The best goal of the match came when Navarro found Pina with a pinpoint-accurate low cross and the Barcelona forward took one touch before rifling a shot into the top right corner of the net. With about ten minutes remaining, only the crossbar prevented Pina from finishing the match with a hat-trick.

Another one of the European champions' more experienced players rose to the occasion when goalkeeper Catalina Coll made an impressive double save near the end of the match to keep a clean sheet, as Spain finished as comfortable winners in Montevideo's first game on matchday two.
