Estadio Charrua

Opened in 1984, the Estadio Charrua is located in Rivera Park in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo and is named after the country’s indigenous people.

Designed as a football stadium, it was re-built in 2006 with funding from FIFA’s Goal Project. Since 2013, it has also been the home ground of the Uruguayan national rugby team.

The multi-purpose facility has even hosted games involving Uruguay’s American Football team, known as Los Charrúas, as well as several music concerts.

The stadium will host 18 matches at this year’s FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, including the semi-finals, match for third place and the final.

To that end, the venue is currently undergoing refurbishment, with the laying of artificial turf and the renovation of its lighting system among the works being carried out.
