16 days to go: 16 games at the Tournament of Champions

There will be 16 games in total at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. The eight teams are split into two groups of four, with the best pair from each group qualifying for the semi-finals, which will be held over two days. The third-place play-off and final will be held on the same day, 2 July, in Moscow and Saint Petersburg respectively.

This format has been in use since 1997 and has not been changed for eight tournaments. The first two editions of the competition in 1992 and 1995, when it was known as the King Fahd Cup, featured only four and six teams respectively. In 1997, all 16 fixtures were held in one stadium in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. Twenty years later in Russia, four stadiums in four cities will host four games each.
