KiNG eSports triumphed in a fantastic finale to the FIFA eClub World Cup 2019 in London to leave victourious as only the second side to be named the top team on the planet.

The first eSports organisation to take the title, following Brondby's pair of triumphs in the first two editions of the tournament, the much-fancied duo of 2018 Grand Finalist 'nicolas99FC' and two-time FUT Champions Cup winner 'Tekkz' did not fail to deliver.

Day two served up such an offering of drama, tension and excitement across a keenly-contested knockout stage. We look back over all of Sunday's action.

Favourites from the off thanks to topping the FIFA Global Series Rankings on both PlayStation and Xbox, KiNG have had a target on their back since rolling into the eClub World Cup.

Imperious in round two and three on day one, they found themselves under plenty of pressure in the knockout rounds. Both players went through the mill as first ‘Tekkz’ and then ‘nicolas99fc’ lost their one v ones to force a third match – with the Argentinian inconsolable after a 4-0 semi loss to Futbolist.

But when on the virtual pitch together they were phenomenal and moved into another gear come the final, making sure they didn't need a third two v two of the day to get the better of Dijon and take the $40,000 prize.

"I haven't won for a while, I always lose in the semi-finals, so I will be posting the leaderboards out tonight. Everyone thought I'd be gone after the patch (latest update), but I'm still here!"

'Tekkz' with a word for his doubters

Few had Dijon down as a name bound for the final, with the duo arriving way down the rankings – 'Moolzn' was the lowest of the 32 in London this weekend. But as loanees from the highly respected Team Vitality stable, they weren’t lacking in pedigree.

After having last season’s climax scuppered by illness, Herozia has been one of the weekend's standout performers, tasting defeat just once – in their two v two against close friends Team Vitality – prior to the final. After dispatching the much-fancied Manchester City, they proved their spot in the knockouts was no fluke. But after seeing off FaZe Clan, the final proved a bridge too far for the French outfit against the unstoppable KiNG.

"We were underdogs and we tried out best in the final and it was not easy, but we are proud of our tournament."

'Moolzn' reflecting on the final

With two wins in one v ones enough to send any side through, incredibly all four quarter-final ties went to dramatic two v two encounters to decide the semi-finalists. There was tension everywhere you looked as Futbolist edged through in extra time, while FaZe Clan needed penalties to get past Ajax in nail-biting fashion.

“It’s hard but we need to accept [the defeat] and go on,” ‘Ajax Dani’ said at fulltime. “It was so important for us to become the world champions as a club. We did really well in the qualification, we did really well today but losing on penalty kicks isn’t nothing. It was a lottery.”

Of the seven established names in the world of football, four of their eSports counterparts made it into the second day in the shape of Ajax, Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Dijon. While they started out on level footing with the eSports organisations in the final, that was all to change after the quarter-finals.

Only Dijon remained in the semis as eSports organisations really stamped their mark on the tournament, with FaZe Clan, Futbolist and eventual winners KiNG seeing the semis weighted heavily in the eSports organisations' favour.

While their fairy tale came to an end in the semi-finals, Futbolist, the first Turkish side ever to appear at the eClub World Cup, left their mark on the tournament. Celebrations that echoed across the arena whenever they were on target, they saw off Wolves in a tense extra-time two v two encounter, before pushing KiNG eSports all the way. ‘Sanchez’ and ‘Isopower’ are a pair to keep an eye out for.
