Korea DPR and Korea Republic were first two from continent to seal qualification
Japan edged China PR 1-0 in the match for third place at the AFC U-16 Women's Championship Thailand 2017 to become the third and final representative from Asia to qualify for next year's FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay.
A second-half strike by Momo Nakao made all the difference for Naoki Kusunose's side. Her goal was a huge relief for Young Nadeshiko as it came after Japan had missed a penalty before half-time.
Later in the day, Korea DPR and Korea Republic, the first two teams from Asia to qualify for Uruguay 2018, played in the final of the tournament. FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup holders Korea DPR beat Korea Republic 2-0 to retain their title.
The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Uruguay 2018 will take place from 13 November to 1 December next year. Alongside hosts Uruguay, Korea DPR, Korea Republic and Japan will be New Zealand, who confirmed their qualification in August 2017.
