Ibrahimovic completes LA Galaxy move

One of the biggest stars in world football has arrived in Hollywood.

Sweden's all-time leading goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has completed his transfer from Manchester United to five-time Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup champions Los Angeles Galaxy.

Galaxy acquired Ibrahimovic using one of the league's roster mechanisms called Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and he will occupy an international roster spot on the team. There are a total of 184 international roster spots divided among the 23 clubs, with no limit on the number of international spots on each club's roster.

“Coming to play in the United States, it is only fitting for me to join the most successful team in Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy,” Ibrahimovic told the club's official website.

“I am excited to join a club with a winning legacy that has embodied soccer in Los Angeles for over 20 years. I would like to thank everyone at the club for making it possible to play for the LA Galaxy. I am looking forward to joining my teammates, playing at StubHub Center in front of our fans and helping our team compete this season.”

Manchester United announced the termination of Ibrahimovic's contract on Thursday, releasing the following statement: "Manchester United confirms that it has agreed to the termination of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract with immediate effect. Everyone at the club would like to thank Zlatan for his contribution to the team since his arrival and wishes him well for the future."

Ibrahimovic posted a farewell message to Manchester United supporters on his social media accounts.

"Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United," it read. "Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history. #foreverred."
