Gladbach flying high on real and virtual pitch

  • Borussia Monchengladbach flying high on real and virtual pitch

  • Top performances in VBL Club Championship, FeCWC qualifying

  • 'Jeffrey' and 'DerGaucho' have conceded just 29 goals so far in Virtual Bundesliga

Borussia Monchengladbach are currently Germany's team to watch, both on the pitch and the virtual field. The eTeam is taking inspiration from their counterparts out on the grass, with both currently topping their respective leagues.

Similarities between the two outfits can also be seen in their defensive solidity. Borussia Monchengladbach’s back line is currently one of the strongest in the Bundesliga, having conceded just 16 goals in 14 games, while the eSports team boast the best defensive record in the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship.

'Jeffrey' and 'DerGaucho' have conceded just 29 goals in the Virtual Bundesliga, and their focus on defence has earned them first place in the table. They have lost just one match so far this season and have a total of nine wins to their name. Richard 'DerGaucho' Hormes has racked up goals aplenty – 31 of them in fact – and the two have managed an equal number of victories thus far on their respective consoles.

Bayer Leverkusen are the only team capable of overhauling them after Thursday’s games on Matchday 11 of the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship, otherwise Gladbach will be at the head of the table going into the break, which runs until early January, giving them the honorary title of "Winter Champions". The two teams could also meet at the FIFA eClub World Cup in February if they make it through qualifying.

Gladbach came first in their eClub World Cup league in the opening week, which was followed up by a third-placed finish in round two, despite scoring more or less the same number of points. And while 'DerGaucho' has been the stand-out player, 'Jeffrey' has also made a significant contribution to the current strength of the club.
