  • Korea DPR, Korea Republic qualify for next year's U-17 Women's World Cup

  • The two teams will meet in the AFC U-16 Championship final in Thailand

  • China PR and Japan will play for third and final spot for Asia in world finals

Korea DPR and Korea Republic have advanced to the AFC U-16 Women's Asian Championship final, securing their places at next year's FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Uruguay 2018.

In the first semi-final of the day, U-17 Women's World Cup defending champions Korea DPR beat China PR 1-0 thanks to a second-half penalty scored by captain Ri Sugyong. Korea DPR have always finished in the top two places since their first participation in the competition at Malaysia 2007. The win also means they have participated in every U-17 Women's World Cup.

Later in the day the other finalist was confirmed when Korea Republic came from behind to defeat Japan 4-2 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

By securing their place at next year's U-17 Women's World Cup alongside Korea DPR, Korea Republic return to the world finals for the first time since Trinidad and Tobago 2010, when they won the competition.

Korea DPR and Korea Republic will play for the championship, and the honour of being Asian champions heading into Uruguay 2018, on 23 September in Chonburi.

China PR and Japan will play in the match for third place, with the final ticket to Uruguay 2018 on the line, earlier on the same day.

The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Uruguay 2018 will take place from 13 November to 1 December 2018. Alongside hosts Uruguay, Korea DPR and Korea Republic will be New Zealand, who confirmed their qualification in August 2017.
