Brazil, Colombia book tickets to Uruguay

Brazil and Colombia won their way to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Uruguay 2018 in contrasting fashion on the final day of the continental championship in San Juan, Argentina on Sunday.

The pair, along with Venezuela and Uruguay, began the last of three final-round matchdays locked on three points, with two tickets on offer to the world stage.

Brazil won the early match in emphatic fashion thanks to three first-half goals to reach their fifth U-17 Women’s World Cup, and leaving the two-time U-17 Women’s World Cup semi-finalists eliminated.

Colombia needed only to avoid a heavy defeat to qualify, which they did with a late equaliser ensuring a 1-1 draw against Uruguay to lock up a fourth appearance on the world stage.

The U-17 Women’s World Cup hosts were edged into third, with their status at November’s tournament already assured.
