Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City not only succeeded in clinching the 2017/18 English Premier League, they won it in style. The Blues stormed to the title with a record amount of Premier League wins, points and goals, finishing a whopping 19 points clear of their nearest rivals.
While the team is laden with star players – from Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva to Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus – the mastermind behind the team’s success was Guardiola, a nominee for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2018. The amount of times goal-hungry Manchester City found the net during the 2017/18 English Premier League season, surpassing the initial record of 103 set by Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea during the 2009/10 campaign. Guardiola’s City also amassed an astounding +79 goal difference, again bettering the previous best of Chelsea’s class of 2009/10, who finished with +71.

The number of points Guardiola’s men finished the 2017/18 Premier League campaign with – the most an English top-flight team has registered in one season. The City centurions were also the quickest to reach 100 goals in a Premier League season, which came in a 4-1 win against West Ham with three league games to spare.

Manchester City enjoyed the biggest share of possession (82.13 per cent) at Everton on 31 March. It was the highest a Premier League side has registered away from home since records began.

City’s victory against Southampton on the final day of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign ensured they finished with an incredible 32 wins in 38 games. Guardiola’s side became the first team to achieve that feat in a single English top-flight season.

The amount of consecutive wins City racked up in all competitions during the 2017/18 season – a record for English football. The run stretched from 26 August to 6 December, when City were defeated 2-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League.

Guardiola’s Blues exerted their domestic dominance by sweeping aside the opposition in England’s top flight, beating all other 19 teams over the course of the campaign. Nineteen is also the number of points City finished above their nearest rivals, bettering the record set by neighbours Manchester United, who won the division by 18 points in 1999/00.

Though blessed with world-renowned names in his squad, Guardiola also trusts in youth. At age 17, FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Ball winner Phil Foden became the youngest ever player to receive a Premier League winner's medal.

The number of away wins Guardiola’s City registered in the 2017/18 Premier League season, bettering Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea of 2004/05, who held the initial record of 15 victories from 19 games. City also became the first Premier League team to register 50 points on the road, once again pipping Mourinho’s Chelsea side of 2004/05, who held the previous record of 48.
