Wang Shuang became the first Chinese player to join Paris Saint-Germain as the French champions announced her signing on Friday in Shenzhen, China PR.

The 23-year-old Chinese women's national team midfielder signed a two-year contract with the Les Parisiens at an eye-catching ceremony attended by none other than former Steel Roses legend Sun Wen, former Barcelona and PSG star Maxwell Scherrer and Antero Henrique, sporting director at PSG.

The signing came prior to this year's 2018 Trophée des Champions, which was contested by PSG and Monaco on Saturday at the Chinese southern city bordering Hong Kong. PSG thrashed Monaco 4-0 in the match courtesy of a brace from Angel Di Maria and goals from youngesters Christopher Nkunku and Timothy Weah.

Nicknamed "Lady Messi" by Chinese media and fans alike, Wang Shuang has established her place as a promising star through her brilliant performances over the recent years. Notably, she scored the match-winning goal against USA in a 2-1 friendly victory in 2015, ending their 104-game unbeaten streak at home before keeping her cool to equalise through an injury-time spot-kick as China came from behind to draw against Korea DPR 1-1 on the road to the 2016 Women's Olympic Football Tournament.

With intricate technique and pace, the midfielder is capable of causing her rivals headaches. She can lash the ball home with either foot and has earned the reputation for scoring crucial goals.

For the player, it came as a dream come true joining a top European team. "I am very happy to become a member of such a top-class club," Shuang told FIFA.com after inking the deal with PSG. "It is not easy to go all the way to join PSG. Meanwhile, I am aware that I have increasing expectations to live up to. I will work hard and try not to let the supporters down."

With the FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019 kicking off in less than a year's time, she is particularly relishing the chance of playing in her second Women's World Cup on her adopted land.

"I am looking forward to next year's Women's World Cup. I believe I will make big progress with PSG for the year to come. So it will be a big help for me to represent my country at the Women's World Cup because I will be familiar with the venue and the European opponents. I have no doubts that our national team will achieve results under coach Jia Xiuquan in France next summer."

Shuang’s move to PSG came as an inspiration for China's women's youth team who are competing in this month's FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018.
