Los Ticos reach Colombia

Costa Rica are the first side from the CONCACAF region to book their ticket to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016, after securing their place in the semi-finals of the region's Futsal Championship, which they are hosting. Los Ticos grabbed their second win in Group B with a 6-0 demolition of Cuba to ensure at least a top two finish in the pool.

The reigning regional champions will head to the global finals for the fourth time in the tournament's history. At each of their appearances, Diego Solis has been involved: firstly as a player in 1992 and 2000, and as a coach in 2012 and later this year.

The other three teams in the group still have a chance of advancing to the semi-finals. Canada, who beat Curacao 7-4 and have three points, are favourites to progress ahead of Cuba, who have a single point and must beat the Canucks to finish second. Curacao also have a solitary point, but must beat Costa Rica by a wide margin and hope the other game ends in a draw.

Meanwhile, in Group A, Panama lead with six points and a goal difference of +10. The Canaleros will look to seal their passage to Colombia when they face Mexico, who are currently second on three points, with +2 goal difference. Third-placed Guatemala (also on three points, with a +1 goal difference) will face bottom side Honduras (who have no points and -13 goal difference).

All games will be played on Tuesday 10 May, in San Jose.
