In both the men's and women's game, it takes a long list of ingredients to excel at the highest level. Preparation, focus, training and experience all play a role, but each career is ultimately defined by the crucial moments that come along once in a while – and need to be met head on.

For the 24 teams set to contest the FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019™, the next landmark moment rolls around in June. As they dream of lifting the trophy, the players involved ought to take inspiration from the tournament's official slogan and 'Dare to Shine'.

FIFA.com asked several leading names in men's and women's football what that phrase means to them, how they have applied it in their own careers, and how the players due to feature in France next year should use it to take the tournament by storm.

"It inspires me before every game because every game is a different story," said Kylian Mbappe, who dared to shine during France's Round of 16 match against Argentina at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, as Les Bleus took another step closer to the global crown. "You can leave your own mark on each game and every match is a chance to shine individually and as a team. That's what I tell myself every time I'm in the tunnel and I'm getting ready to step out on to the pitch."

"When we arrive at the stadium, all the lights and all the cameras are pointing at us and we say to ourselves: 'Here we go, it starts now'," added Mbappe's France team-mate Raphael Varane. As for Celia Sasic, a two-time European champion with Germany in 2009 and 2013, 'Dare to Shine' means seizing "a chance to become really exceptional and special. You just have to follow your dreams."

Brazil's Marta knows all about shining as well, having been named FIFA World Player of the Year on six occasions. What does she make of the slogan for France 2019, where she will be hoping to add to her record haul of 15 goals at Women's World Cups? "In life, you need to be able to take risks. You have to believe and not be afraid of making mistakes, if you really want to shine."
