Australia through, another clean sheet for Brazil
Group A: Brazil undefeated
Group B: Nigeria, Ecuador and Australia all through
Hungary and Canada out
Groups A and B at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019™ are done and dusted after what was an exciting final matchday.
The duel between the two teams who had already qualified saw the host nation defeat the tournament’s surprise package Angola 2-0. Star player Talles Magno and Veron were on the scoresheet for the Seleção, who have won all three games of the group stage while conceding only once. New Zealand gave themselves a ray of hope with a 1-0 win over Canada. They'll now have to wait and see whether that success over the Canucks will be enough to take them through to the next round.
In Group B, the second Round of 16 berth that was up for grabs changed hands throughout the 90 minutes. When the final whistle sounded, Ecuador were through courtesy of a late goal, which meant elimination for Hungary. It will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Eastern Europeans who took the lead in each of their three matches but only have one point to show for it at the end of the day.
Nigeria had already booked their spot in the knockout stage and they secured top spot in the group despite slipping to defeat against Australia. It was a double celebration for the Aussies however, who put an end to a run of six consecutive defeats against Nigeria (which saw a total of two goals scored and 18 conceded, the most recent result being a 6-0 loss at Chile 2015). The Golden Eaglets meanwhile will face one of the third-placed teams from Groups A, C and D in the Round of 16 on 5 November.

📌 Memorable moments
Get the calculators out When the final whistle blew at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia, the Australians temporarily found themselves in limbo. Would four points be enough to see them through? The answer was yes! Since the two third-placed teams from Groups A and C will have a poorer record than them, the AFC nation are assured a place in the next round as one of the four best third-placed countries.
Canada still without a win It is now 21 matches and counting without a win at this tournament for Canada, which is the longest run of its kind in the history of the of the FIFA U-17 World Cup (four draws, 17 defeats).
Four out of five Ecuador are taking part in their fifth FIFA U-17 World Cup here in Brazil. While they went out in the group stage in 1987, La Tri made it all the way to the quarter-finals in 1995 and 2015 and the Round of 16 in 2011. They are through to the knockout rounds again this time around, where they will play the second-placed team from Group F on 7 November.
