Is England's time now?

After booking a place in the semi-finals, it seems that history might be lining up for the Three Lions...

In their 15th World Cup, England have now reached the semi-finals 3 times. It has been 28 years since they were last here...

At Italy 90 they went out to Germany FR in a famous shootout in the last 4 that started their penalty jinx.

But they broke the jinx against Colombia in the Round of 16. It was their first victory in a penalty shootout in the World Cup after three defeats.

A huge key for them of course has been top scorer and captain Harry Kane, who is leading the race for the adidas Golden Boot with six goals

England have been playing with the freedom of youth, and they are the third-youngest team at the finals. Their average age is just 26 years and 1 month.

England's success in Russia comes on the back of an amazing 2017, which saw them become just the second nation ever to win the U-17 and U-20 World Cups in the same year (after Brazil in 2003).

We’ve got some talented players coming through, some very good young players, though next year is maybe going to come a bit too soon for them.

Gary Lineker told in 2017. Showing even the experts are surprised...

England coach Gareth Southgate largely agrees with Lineker...

We’re not the finished article. We don’t have renowned, world class players yet but lots of good young players who are showing on the world stage that they’re prepared to be brave with the ball. We try to play the right way and show mental resilience, but we know in years to come they’re going to be stronger.

A big part of their success is certainly the Premier League. England are the only team whose players all play domestically (23 out of 23), and there are 124 players total in Russia who play in England - the highest percentage at the World Cup (17%)

Is everything coming good for England? They're trying not to get ahead of themselves...

We know there’s still a big game ahead, but we’re feeling good, we’re feeling confident. I know the fans here, and the fans back home are enjoying it. We just want to make the country proud.
