Singapore football players celebrate with the trophy after defeating Thailand

Qualification history*
Singapore have participated in each of Asia's qualifying campaigns for the FIFA World Cup™ since 1974. However, the Lions have yet to make a real impact by reaching the final stage. The closest they came was on the road to USA 1994, when they recorded five wins, including a 1-0 success against Qatar, only to finish in third place and go out. This time out, Bernd Stange's troops grabbed three victories in their attempts to reach Russia - as well as a hard fought point against eventual group winners Japan - ultimately finishing third in Group E, which saw them exit in Round 2.
