After Stipe Pletikosa retired from international football, fellow Split native Lovre Kalinic became Croatia’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Danijel Subasic.
The two-metre giant initially broke through at his home-town club Hajduk but moved to K.A.A. Gent in Belgium during the winter transfer window of 2016/17. Even though Kalinic was only at Gent for half a season, he quickly won the hearts of local fans and was voted the best goalkeeper in the Belgian First Division A.
Kalinic played two qualifiers for Croatia on the road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.
