Replacing English Premier League’s Player of the Season for 2017 N’Golo Kante was an unenviable task for Wilfred Ndidi at Leicester City. However, the manner in which he has slotted into the little midfielder’s big shoes has been admirable and near-seamless. A more physically imposing presence than Kante, his long-legged stature sees the 21-year-old cover ground quickly, compete aerially and aid his league-leading rate of tackles per game.
Singled out as the Foxes’ most consistent player this season by coach Claude Puel – though not unfamiliar with the referee’s notebook – he will look to form part of a solid and mobile base in Nigeria's midfield. Ndidi's job will be to regain possession, release the ball and allow the Super Eagles’ forward figures to express themselves.
