The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) held its annual Licensing Awards on Tuesday 9 June with the Retail & Licensing Programme from the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ being recognised as the best Sports or Sports-Themed Entertainment Programme.
Following the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and heading into the 2014 tournament, FIFA conducted a thorough review of the existing Retail and Licensing programme before deciding it was necessary to change the structure by managing the event licensing programme in-house for the very first time.
This bold strategy eventuated in a ground-breaking product offering that was the most extensive Licensing Programme ever undertaken by FIFA.
Highlights of the programme include:
. First Megastore in FIFA history; 2,000 sqm store located in Copacabana
. Over 120 Official Fan Shops; 14 operators
. 70 Licensees that sold in total 9 million units
. 935 Official Event Stores locations
. 6 direct-to-retail licensees offered products in more than 14,000 retail outlets
. 90 Licensees

. available in 189 countries and eight languages
Each year, the LIMA International Licensing Excellence Awards honour properties, products companies, and promotions from around the world that demonstrated superior performance. The Awards highlight the cutting-edge innovation and dynamic creativity that positively impacted the marketplace during the calendar year 2014.
