The race to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ will hit fever pitch over the next two months, with 22 places still up for grabs, and more than 50 teams still in contention.

The interest in the competition reached an all-time high during September’s qualifiers, with more than 1 million visitors a day visiting FIFA.com. The World Cup qualifiers created a 115 per cent increase in visitors, and while mobile users accounted for 30 per cent of the total users, desktop visitors spent an average of 18 minutes on World Cup-related content.

With October’s final round of World Cup qualifiers, November’s inter-continental play-offs and the Final Draw in Salvador, Brazil on 6 December, visitor numbers are set to ‘spike’ even higher before the end of 2013.

In the last 12 months, a total of 1.6 billion pages of FIFA.com content have been consumed by 119 million digital users, 35 million of whom used a mobile device.

In 2006, at the equivalent stage of qualification for Germany 2006, global football fans had accessed 680 million pages of content, whilst four years later in the build-up to South Africa 2010, that number had risen to 1 billion pages.

Fans have also been able to keep-up-to-date; interact with each other, and FIFA on Twitter, as well as on the official 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Facebook page. All Twitter and Facebook pages can be accessed through the links on the right.

So far, Japan, Korea Republic, Australia, Iran, Netherlands, Italy, USA, Costa Rica and Argentina have all joined the hosts as the first ten teams to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
