On Saturday 25 July, as the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Preliminary Draw was taking place in St. Petersburg, a seminar was held for teams participating in the qualifiers for the 21st edition of football’s flagship event.
As part of the seminar, the Russia 2018 Local Organising Committee (LOC) and FIFA jointly presented the Team Base Camp (TBC) e-brochure to be used by the 32 teams that qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. 60 TBCs are included in the current version which have been approved by the host country and FIFA.
The TBCs included in the e-brochure at this stage represent various regions of European Russia – from Kaliningrad to Ekaterinburg. “The list of TBCs we have offered will expand the geographic reach of the FIFA World Cup significantly,” said LOC Chairman Vitaly Mutko. “Thanks to this concept for locating teams, we have involved people from virtually all over the European part of Russia.
According to FIFA requirements, a TBC must include a hotel and training site, located a short distance from each other and no more than an hour's drive from an airport capable of handling certain classes of aircraft.
The TBC e-brochure for the FIFA World Cup in Russia was the first ever to be fully delivered in electronic form.
“The format of the e-brochure has a host of undeniable advantages,” said Alexey Sorokin, CEO of the Local Organising Committee. “It will allow the search for the most suitable TBC to be as convenient and accessible as possible compared to previous paper brochures. Most importantly, this e-brochure is easy to use thanks to search filters which representatives of the qualifying teams will be able to configure according to the criteria that are most important to them.”
The e-brochure is hosted on a dedicated site – www.tbc-russia2018.com – and its contents can be viewed by everyone.
The next stages will see the LOC add new venues to the e-brochure, providing they comply with the relevant requirements and are approved by FIFA.
