Guus Hiddink has not signed a deal to coach Côte d'Ivoire at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, the country's football federation said tonight.

It was widely reported today the Russia coach, who will take over as boss of Turkey on 1 August, had agreed teams to lead the Elephants in South Africa. But Ivorian Football Federation president Jacques Anouma denied that.

"I know you all expect me to tell you the name of the new coach of the Elephants, but I have not yet signed with a coach," he told reporters this evening. "I've actually met many, as mentioned in your various newspapers. But none has yet been chosen."

Hiddink took Russia to the semi-finals of the 2008 UEFA EURO, but they failed to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It is believed his contract with the Russian federation, which runs until the end of June, could be a sticking point in negotiations.

Former Japan coach Philippe Troussier and ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson have also been linked with the job since Vahid Halilhodzic was sacked as Côte d'Ivoire coach after their quarter-final exit from the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in January.
