- Diego Reyes believes Mexico will win Russia 2018
- ‘It’s not crazy to say it,’ said the Porto defender
- He gives a solid reason for his bold prediction
Diego Reyes believes Mexico will lift the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow – and he has a good reason why people shouldn’t consider him “crazy” for saying it.
“It’s very exciting – the World Cup, which is important for all footballers, is coming,” the 25-year-old Porto defender told Marca. “It’s a dream to be there. I had the chance to go to a World Cup and I know what it’s like.
“We’re going there to win it. Many will label us crazy, but they did the same at the Olympic Games. I see myself as a world champion – it’s not crazy to say it.”
Mexico are in an examining Group F with reigning champions Germany, Sweden and Korea Republic.
The forthcoming World Cup will be Mexico’s seventh in succession. Only Brazil (21 editions including Russia 2018), Germany (17), Argentina (12), Spain (11) and Korea Republic (9) top them on the list of its long-serving ever-presents.
