FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter met with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in London on Thursday, on the occasion of the 2012 Olympic Games. Following the meeting, the FIFA President stated the following:

"Dilma Rousseff and I agreed when we met in Brasilia in March to meet regularly at presidential level, to update each other on the preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™. The Olympics is a good occasion to meet as Rio will organise the 2016 edition. I congratulated her on the work being done in Brazil, at the level of the cities, the states and the government.

“The work has improved greatly following a meeting held in Zurich earlier this year between Brazilian sports minister Aldo Rebelo and FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke, where I was also present. We established a working system in the executive level of the organisation together with the LOC, appointing a representative of the government in this board. The work is in progress in the stadiums, the roads, and the airports. There is still a lot to do but we are on the good track, and there are currently no stadiums in the red.

“We all agree that the FIFA World Cup in Brazil must be a success. With President Dilma Rousseff, we have expressed mutual confidence and we are certain that we will be able to deliver a very exciting 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and an exceptional 2014 FIFA World Cup.”
