Northern Ireland – Russia qualifier rescheduled

Snow covers the picth of Windsor Park stadium in Belfast

The Group F 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifier between Northern Ireland and Russia, postponed last month, will now be played on Wednesday 14 August 2013.

A meeting was held at the Home of FIFA in Zurich on Wednesday 10 April with delegations of both the Irish Football Association and the Football Union of Russia.

The two sides were unable to take to the field due to heavy snow on 22 March, and despite an agreement to try and play the game the following day, the match delegates deemed the conditions were unplayable after a further pitch inspection.

The Russians, under the stewardship of Fabio Capello have a 100 per cent record in the group, with four wins out of four. Northern Ireland, who last qualified for the World Cup in 1986 are currently in fourth place in the six team group, with Michael O’Neill’s side picking up just three points from their opening five Group F matches so far.

The kick-off time will be announced at a later stage.
