LOC to hold stadium operators’ seminar

The heads of Brazil’s biggest football stadiums will come together in the city of Fortaleza this week with one objective in mind: to bring the level of services they offer to fans up to international standard. The gathering, which goes by the name of the Stadium Operators’ Seminar and is being promoted by the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Organising Committee (LOC), begins on Tuesday and will focus, among other aspects, on management models, business practices, operational workforce numbers, pitches and sustainability.

“On day one we’re going to be bringing administrators from the 12 FIFA World Cup Host Cities and the stadiums staging games in the top two flights of the Brazilian championship face to face with experienced professionals, and encouraging them to exchange knowledge and information,” explained Tiago Paes, the LOC’s Stadiums Operations Manager. “The aim is to leave a legacy that will enable the 12 FIFA World Cup stadiums to continue to offer high-quality services after 2014 and to ensure that this process is also played out at other stadiums across Brazil.”

Among the 300 participants at the three-day event will be representatives from the Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange, the Estadio Engenhao, Estadio Mineirao, Arena Fonte Nova and Houston’s Reliant Stadium in the USA. For their part, each Brazil 2014 venue will be represented by eight professionals involved in stadium operations, while four representatives of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia will also be in attendance.

“We will be meeting with representatives from the 12 [Brazil 2014] stadiums on Wednesday and Thursday to speak about the role that each of us (the LOC, FIFA and the stadium operators) will perform during the FIFA Confederations Cup and FIFA World Cup,” said Ricardo Trade, the LOC’s Operations Director. “To ensure that this complex structure functions correctly, we need to establish common ground on hospitality, medical services, marketing, the press, TV, security, accreditation, technology, transport, logistics and cleaning.”
