Monday 29 May 2006 saw the introduction of an unprecedented service at a major football event for media representatives from around the world when the Mobility BahnCard comes into effect.
Thanks to an agreement with Official Supplier Deutsche Bahn AG, the LOC has secured free first-class travel for 6,000 journalists around the Deutsche Bahn network for six weeks.

Some 1,500 of the railcards have been allocated to HBS for the radio and TV journalists with a further 4,500 distributed among domestic and foreign print journalists and photographers. German media representatives had to apply for the Bahncard 100 by 31 October 2005.
All international print journalists and photographers and pre-approved German media will receive the BahnCard when they collect their accreditation badge at the accreditation centres.
In Düsseldorf, the local State Government have even taken the successful campaign a step further, enabling accredited journalists holding a Mobility BahnCard to travel free of charge throughout the whole state of Nordrhein-Westfalen from 29 May, including the use of regional and local buses and trains.
