FIFA.com users certainly agreed with the decision to bestow the adidas Golden Ball upon Luka Modric. An unprecedented 49 per cent of you, indeed, voted the Croatian composer into your Fan Dream Team presented by Hisense.
Brazil’s Philippe Coutinho, who registered two goals and two assists in five appearances, was named in 45.6 per cent of the XIs, with four-goal Kylian Mbappe grabbing a third-highest 41.1 per cent.
The Frenchman was joined in attack by Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo, with Kevin De Bruyne completing the team of the tournament's midfield.
Thibaut Courtois, who kept three clean sheets and seized the adidas Golden Glove, won 19 per cent of the votes to become the Fan Dream Team’s goalkeeper, while Raphael Varane, Thiago Silva, Diego Godin and Marcelo comprised the defence.
The best-represented country in the Fan Dream Team was, surprisingly, Brazil, who went out in the quarter-finals but had three entrants. Champions France and third-placed Belgium had two apiece, while seven countries were represented overall.
