Anastacia to perform International Official Song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea / Japan(TM)

Star singer Anastacia will debut “Boom,” the International Official Song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea / Japan™ at the final draw for the competition in Busan, Korea on 1 December, 2001.

In addition, the Official Anthem of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, composed by world-renowned Greek composer Vangelis, will debut in a special performance by a full Korean symphony orchestra during the event in Busan. Vangelis' anthem will feature traditional Korean music from Kim Duk Soo's SamulNori, and traditional Japanese drumming from Kodo.

“The Official Song has become an integral part of the identity of the FIFA World Cup™, which is now not only recognisable by a logo and a mascot but by a very special song as well”, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter said.

“I am convinced that this song, performed by one of the female music icons of our times, and also the Official Anthem by Vangelis, will create emotional links among the teams, the fans and the 2002 FIFA World Cup™”, Mr. Blatter added.

Anastacia, Vangelis and Kodo are all Sony Music artists. Their performances are part of a major licensing agreement announced today between FIFA and Sony Music through which Sony Music will produce and release the Official Music of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™. The International Official Album, which will debut in time for the start of the final competition of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ in spring 2002, will feature tracks from artists representing numerous countries that have qualified for the final stages of the event. Sony Music International will distribute the release on a global basis through its network of worldwide affiliates.

In addition to the International Official Album of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, Sony Music will release the Official Korea / Japan Album of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, featuring artists from the two host countries, Korea and Japan, which includes the Local Official Song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, the result of collaboration between Korean and Japanese artists, celebrating their unique partnership and paying homage to their shared passion for football.

Official songs at recent FIFA World Cups™ include “Un’estate italiana” (1990) performed by Edoardo Bennato and Gianna Nannini, “Gloryland” (1994) performed by Daryl Hall with Sounds of Blackness and “La copa de la vida” (1998), performed by Ricky Martin.
