The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Local Organising Committee (LOC) is going to work in partnership with the Olympic Games Transport Directorate to develop the transport services concept for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The agreement was signed on 23 November by the CEO of the 2018 Russia LOC, Alexey Sorokin, and the CEO of the Transport Directorate, Sergey Kozyrev, during the Russian Ministry of Transport’s Transport Week 2011. One of the key topics at the forum was the transport infrastructure being built ahead of Russia 2018.
Under the agreement, the LOC and the Transport Directorate will work together to create the transport services plan for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and related events. The two sides intend to cooperate on all aspects of the transport infrastructure and logistics required to stage the world’s biggest football tournament.
The Transport Directorate was set up in 2009 with support from the Russian Ministry of Transport, and has considerable experience of developing transport infrastructure for major international sporting events, such as the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and the XXVII World University Summer Games in Kazan in 2013. The Transport Directorate also played an active part in putting together the transport chapter for Russia’s bid book when the country was bidding for the right to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
