Referee designations for matches 57 and 58


FIFA has announced the referees for FIFA World Cup™ matches 57 and 58.

The quarter-final match between Brazil and Colombia will be officiated by Carlos Velasco from Spain. It will the third game in this competition for the 43-year-old Spaniard after the Uruguay-England and Bosnia and Herzegovina-Iran group stage encounters. In the past, Velasco was in charge of two matches at UEFA EURO 2012 and the semi-final between Raja Casablanca and the Brazilian Copa Libertadores winner Atletico Mineiro at the FIFA Club World Cup 2013.

The referee for the France-Germany match will be Nestor Pitana. The international career for the 39-year-old Argentinian began in 2010, just three years after he made his refereeing debut in the Argentinian top league. In his confederation, CONMEBOL, he was in charge of the first-leg matches of the Recopa Sudamericana final 2012 and the Copa Libertadores decider in 2013. His first FIFA tournament was the U-17 World Cup 2013, where he refereed three games. At the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he officiated the Russia-Korea Republic, USA-Portugal and Honduras-Switzerland group-phase matches.
