Rabah Saadane, Algeria coach
I think it was a very good match from us. We played well – in fact, both teams did. There were a lot of chances at both ends. We were unlucky. The altitude played a role in the physical side of things and some players struggled in the second half, but I fielded the players who looked to be in the best form and who gave us the best attacking potential. We’ve worked hard, yet that work hasn’t been rewarded. We lacked the efficiency and success in front of goal that the United States enjoyed. I congratulate them.

Bob Bradley, USA coach
These guys never give up and they showed that again today. I was worried because we could have gone away empty-handed, but my players decided otherwise and never stopped believing. We’re proud to finish first in the group on five points, and we’re already prepared to go further.

Landon Donovan, USA forward
Of course, we should have and could have scored earlier, which would have spared us that dramatic ending. In the end, though, it’s a good thing that it happened that way, so quickly. I didn’t even have time to think what I was going to do. Being in the right place and putting the ball in the net just came naturally. The best thing for us to do now is to rest because we really need it, but I can assure you that we’ll be ready for the next round.

Anther Yahia, Algeria defender and captain
The people of Algeria can be proud of their national team, even if there’s a certain frustration. The final result sticks in my throat because we had a chance of going through, but we don’t have any regrets about how we played. We have to keep our feet on the ground, however, as Algeria aren’t Brazil or Argentina. We’re a good team and we need to be optimistic about the future. We have solid foundations.

Karim Ziani, Algeria midfielder
We’re sorry for the people of Algeria, but they need to know that we gave everything. We never gave up. We had chances to win and in the end we conceded on the break. That’s football. We had nothing left in our legs in the last 20 minutes. It was very tough physically, but we leave the competition with our heads held high.

Nadir Belhadj, Algeria defender
We came across a very good United States team who were undoubtedly better prepared than us. Physically, it was difficult. Despite everything, we had chances as we usually do, and we just lacked goals. Algeria are a country on the rise. I hope that in four years’ time we’ll be involved again and that we’ll do better.
