Unforgettable moments from France 2019

Unforgettable moments

All good things come to an end. Before we know who will lift the trophy at France 2019, we review some of the best and most emotional moments of the tournament.

They might have suffered the biggest defeat ever in a #FIFAWWC match (against USA), but the way they celebrated the only goal they scored in France... 😍

That is what football is all about ❤️

Latinas' maiden moments...

  • Spain won their first #FIFAWWC match and reached the last 16 for the first time
  • Argentina claimed their first #FIFAWWC points
  • Chile won their first match in their debut #FIFAWWC

Forza Azzurre

With Bonansea, Girelli and Galli on top form, Italy finished first in a tough group, and reached the quarter-finals where they were defeated by eventual finalists the Netherlands.

Tears and pride

There have also been lots of tears, especially when the hosts were defeated in the last eight despite a brave match against USA. But the final feeling was #FierdetreBleues

Historic victory

For the first time in 24 years, Sweden managed to defeat Germany in a major tournament. They were victorious in the last eight, before the Blågult were defeated by the Dutch in the semi-finals.

Her goals were not enough to help England to a dream final, but Ellen White's celebrations will be remembered as one of the iconic images of France 2019.

Penalty drama

  • Argentina scored a penalty in the 94th minute to end Scotland's last 16 hopes
  • Lindahl saved one against Canada to send Sweden to the quarter-finals
  • Naeher saved against England to secure USA's final ticket
  • Martens scored in the 90th minute to help the Dutch through and send Japan home

Netherlands knocked out Japan - champions in 2011 and runners-up in 2015 - with a late penalty. The Oranjeleeuwinnen players celebrated the ticket to the quarter-finals but did not forget to embrace their rivals in their sorrow.

"There's not going to be a Formiga, Marta or Cristiane forever. Women's football depends on you to survive. Think about it, value it more."

Marta, #FIFAWWC's all-time top goalscorer, sends an inspirational message to the next generation after Brazil's round of 16 exit.

Is the best yet to come? 😉
