  • Thailand qualify for next year's Women's World Cup
  • They earn qualification by advancing to AFC Women's Asian Cup semis
  • Three more teams from the continent will join Thailand at France 2019

After earning an historic maiden qualification at the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™, Thailand have built on that success by qualifying for a second consecutive world finals.

Thailand's 3-1 victory over the Philippines in their third match in Group A at the AFC Women's Asian Cup Jordan 2018 meant they sealed a berth in the continental semi-finals and confirmed their place as one of five teams from Asia at next year's Women's World Cup in France.

Kanjana Sung-Ngoen converted her penalty kick in the 28th minute to give Thailand the lead at half-time. Sung-Ngoen then scored again shortly after the break in the 53rd minute for her third goal of the tournament. Twelve minutes later, Silawan Intamee made it 3-0 to give the Thais the insurance they needed. Jesse Shugg snatched a late consolation for the Philippines three minutes into stoppage time.

Thailand's path to qualification was far from straightforward. They dropped their opening match at Jordan 2018 by a heavy scoreline of 4-0 to China PR before responding positively in their next game with a 6-1 win over hosts Jordan. That result seemed to have given coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian's side the momentum they needed to ultimately navigate their way to the continental semi-finals.

Three more Asian nations will look to book their tickets to France 2019, so keep following FIFA.com and FIFA's digital platforms for the latest news.
