Sasic: I would change this award for team success

Germany striker Celia Sasic has been a prolific scorer at international level since making her debut ten years ago, but now she has secured her place among the greats by winning the adidas Golden Boot at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup™. Sasic’s six goals and one assist was equalled by USA's Carli Lloyd in the Final, but because Sasic played fewer minutes, the title went to the Germany No13.

Sasic is now the second German to claim the title after Birgit Prinz in 2003. She netted a hat-trick against Côte d'Ivoire, a double against Sweden in the Round of 16, along with a penalty against France in the quarter-finals, and is now Germany's fourth greatest all-time goalscorer.

Though disappointed with defeat against England in the Match for Third Place, Sasic spoke with *FIFA.com *before departing Canada about her views on the tournament, Germany’s performances and claiming her place among the goalscoring greats.

FIFA.com: How does it feel to achieve something as historic as winning the adidas Golden Boot?
Celia Sasic:
I would change this trophy for another one (with the team). In the future maybe I will look back and be proud of it. But we didn’t achieve what we came here for, so it is not easy to think about this at the moment.

*It was obviously a disappointing end to the tournament? *
We wanted to fly home on a high with a win and with a medal. Unfortunately it didn’t work for us.

How did you enjoy the tournament from a personal perspective?
It was nice to play in my second World Cup. It was nice to beat teams like Sweden and France. When it finishes like this it is difficult, but I’m sure we will soon be proud and positive about what level we reached. Nevertheless it was a great tournament.

*Were you happy with your own performances throughout the tournament?
*
Normally I’m never happy because you always feel you can do more and score more. But I tried to give all my energy and give everything I have. I was happy to score six goals and contribute to the team coming this far.

*Was there any one moment that was a personal highlight?
*
The highlight is the whole tournament. The way we played and the games we played. The way we beat Sweden and France in a really crazy way, given there was some much energy and power from everyone. To me it shows there is so much possible for this team.

*Was there any particular lowlights for you? *
When you lose a semi-final it is really hard, and when you lose in this way (in the play-off) it is really hard also. When you are working towards a medal it is not a nice feeling, but it is what it is.

*How did you approach the World Cup a second time around compared to your first four years ago?
*
It is a different situation, and of course four years ago I was four years younger, and my role in the team was different. Being in Germany too, it added an extra layer. I really enjoyed this World Cup to play so many games at such a high level.
