Jakobsson’s curling strike delivers bronze for Sweden

Sofia Jakobsson promised she would play the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™ for her injured brother and she delivered in spades. The tall Sweden attacker scored a crucial goal in the historic quarter-final win over Germany, and backed that up with what proved to be the winner against England as Blagult claimed the bronze medal in Nice.

Sweden defied both the oppressive French Riviera heat and an opponent who had pushed the world champions to the brink just a few days earlier, to race to an early lead in the match for third place. Kosovare Asllani scored first before Jakobsson doubled the advantage with one of the more memorable goals of her career.

Jakobsson picked up the ball near the corner of the penalty area and advanced a few paces, before unleashing a sumptuous curling effort inside the far post from a 45 degree angle. The strike proved the difference in a 2-1 scoreline and left Sweden celebrating their third bronze medal.

Does Jakobsson deserve the France 2019 Goal of the Tournament Award for her stunning strike? You decide!
