Humm: Beckham, Spider-Man and a sports bra

Switzerland striker Fabienne Humm made history by scoring the fastest hat-trick in FIFA Women’s World Cup™ history today. Five minutes was all it took the FC Zurich attacker to find the net three times against Ecuador, in the process beating Mio Otani’s previous record. The Japanese forward hit an eight-minute hat-trick in her side’s 6-0 win over Argentina back in 2003. Humm’s exploits added extra gloss to a stunning 10-1 victory for the Swiss, who also notched up their first-ever win at the global showpiece.

Humm’s goals came between the 47th and 52nd minutes and featured the whole range of striking skills - first a long-range strike, then a header and finally a clinical finish. “I always give it everything,” said Humm a few weeks before the start of the competition, and her outstanding commitment to the cause has been very much in evidence so far in Canada.

Busy in Switzerland's opening 1-0 defeat to Japan, Humm took the plaudits today for a historic achievement that takes her goal tally to 13 in 37 internationals. After the game in Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium, we met up with the record-breaker for a three-minute chat about her three goals - and other top trios.

FIFA.com: Congratulations on a historic result and great personal achievement. Tell me three things about the match. Fabienne Humm: It was our first win. It was very important. Making it to the next round is in our own hands now and we are going to give it our all to make sure we get there.
