Fiji complete Oceanian octet

  • Fiji win OFC’s Women’s World Cup preliminary qualifiers

  • Melanesians unbeaten in four-nation competition

  • Winner of November’s continental championship to reach France 2019

Fiji advanced to the OFC Women’s Nations Cup on Thursday after a 2-0 win over American Samoa secured top spot in the four-nation preliminary competition.

Playing on home soil in Lautoka, Fiji never looked back following an emphatic 5-1 opening-day win over rivals Vanuatu. However, a tight scoreless draw against Solomon Islands on Tuesday left the door slightly ajar for Fiji’s competitors.

Vanuatu bounced back with a final-day 1-0 win over the Solomons, leaving the Fijians needing a win to advance. And they duly completed their task through first-half goals from Cema Nasau and top-scorer Trina Davis.

One spot to the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™ will be on offer in November’s continental championship, which also doubles as qualifying for the 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
