FIFA’s Live Your Goals Festivals to inspire female youth players across Canada

Festival Live Your Goals in Canada

The stars of women’s soccer will take to the field at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ in just over one month’s time, but before that the spotlight will be on young Canadian female players who have an opportunity to “live their goals” through a series of FIFA #LiveYourGoals Festivals.

The festivals, which are part of the legacy programme for Canada 2015, will be organised in Ottawa on 3 May, Winnipeg on 18 May and Vancouver on 23 May. They follow the Live Your Goals events in Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal, and Toronto in 2014

Live Your Goals is FIFA’s dedicated development campaign aimed at inspiring girls and young women to get involved in soccer and stay in the game,” said Mayi Cruz-Blanco, FIFA Senior Women’s Football Development Manager.

“In Canada, we hope that all the excitement generated through the FIFA Women’s World Cup will contribute to grassroots development for the country’s most popular participation sport. FIFA is working closely with the Canadian Soccer Association to ensure the Live Your Goals festivals are a success and that more female players will be able to live their goals.”

Live Your Goals is a global initiative that inspires girls and young women to achieve their goals in football through perseverance, fair play and teamwork – all while making new friends. FIFA provides support to member associations implementing the campaign and festivals by helping with branding, communications, concept development and financial assistance.

The Canadian Soccer Association is promoting Live Your Goals in and around the FIFA Women’s World Cup while leveraging the exposure and momentum from the event to leave a lasting legacy. This month’s festivals will be delivered through a partnership with its provincial soccer associations.

“These FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 Live Your Goals Festivals are particularly important as they inspire girls and young women to participate in the world’s most popular game and show that they can achieve their personal goals through soccer,” said Peter Montopoli, Chief Executive Officer of the National Organising Committee for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.

“Soccer is Canada’s highest sport by participation and women’s soccer continues to grow rapidly in this country, providing opportunities for girls and women to develop healthy lifestyles and participate in the sport as players and professionals.”
