England manager Sampson leaves post

  • England part ways with manager Mark Sampson

  • Sampson took over as Lionesses coach in December 2013

  • 34-year-old led England to the semi-finals at Canada 2015

The Football Association have announced that England women's national team manager Mark Sampson's contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

The news comes one day after Sampson led the Lionesses to a 6-0 victory over Russia in FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019™ qualifying.

Sampson led England to their best-ever finish at a major tournament when they claimed third place at Canada 2015. This past summer, England reached the UEFA Women's EURO Netherlands 2017 semi-finals, where they were defeated by the hosts.

In March 2015, the 34-year-old led England to the Cyprus Cup title, an annual invitational eight-team tournament.

The Football Association has not announced his replacement.
