China PR and Sweden played out a tense goalless draw in Brasilia, which saw both sides reach the quarter-finals of the Women's Olympic Football Tournament at Rio 2016.

The game saw very few chances, with both sides wary of giving up opportunities to the opposition, for fear of potential elimination. The Swedes' defence was tightened up considerably, becoming much more compact after their 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the hosts on Saturday.

The closest either side went in the first half saw Linda Sembrant head just past her own post in conceding a corner, after a deep ball from the right.

In the second period, Lotta Schelin came close to breaking the deadlock, almost getting in behind the Chinese defence before her effort was smothered by Zhao Lina, who had also denied the No8 in the first period.

Substitute Kosovare Asllani looked bright, hitting an effort from distance which saw Lina scrambling, but the Manchester City forward's strike bounced wide.

The result meant China PR finished second ahead of Sweden in third in Group E, both behind the Rio 2016 hosts. All three progress to the last eight with the Chinese heading to Salvador to face Germany, while Pia Sundhage faces a reunion with USA in Brasilia on Friday.
