FIFA U-20 World Cup record
Ukraine will be making their fourth appearance in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland in 2019. The Ukrainians featured at Argentina 2001, the Netherlands 2005 and New Zealand 2015. They reached the Round of 16 on each occasion before being eliminated by Paraguay (2-1), Nigeria (1-0) and Senegal (1-1 a.e.t., 3-1 on penalties) respectively.
The road to Poland 2019
At the UEFA European U-19 Championship 2018 in Finland, Ukraine reached the semi-finals after emerging as undefeated winners of a group containing reigning U-20 World Cup winners England, France and Turkey. Although they then came up short in the face of a formidable challenge from U-17 European champions Portugal, losing 5-0 to the eventual tournament winners, their ticket to Poland was already secure.
Oleksandr Petrakov managed the U-17 side before taking up his current post in July 2013. He led the team to the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015 and has since repeated the feat ahead of next summer’s tournament.
2 – Vladyslav Supriaha and Serhiy Buletsa were the two players to feature in the team of the tournament at this summer’s UEFA European U-19 Championship. It will be interesting to see if the young duo can be among the standout performers once more in Poland.
