The FIFA U-20 World Cup has historically served as a springboard for players like Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Robert Prosinecki, Andres Iniesta, Antoine Griezmann, Mohamed Salah, Gerard Pique, Paul Pogba and countless other superstars. FIFA will once again keep a close eye on the future greats of the beautiful game during this year’s edition of the tournament, the first-ever FIFA competition to be hosted in Poland.
The TSG experts will analyse the matches and evaluate key statistical material to identify potential trends that will be included in the final TSG report, which will be distributed to all FIFA member associations.
Under the umbrella of FIFA’s Coaching & Player Development Department led by Branimir Ujevic, the TSG in Poland will feature Portugal legend Fernando Couto, a champion at the 1989 edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, and youth-football expert Ivo Susak, the former coach of the Croatia U-21 national team. They will be supported by FIFA’s Goalkeeping Specialist Pascal Zuberbuhler and Performance & Game Analyst Chris Loxston.
The TSG will be responsible for deciding the winners of the following awards:
- the adidas Golden, Silver and Bronze Balls for the best players
- the adidas Golden, Silver and Bronze Boots for the leading goalscorers (if two or more players score the same number of goals, the TSG members will decide the winners based on specific criteria)
- the adidas Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper
- the FIFA Fair Play Award
The TSG reports compiled since the first edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1977 are available here.
