A “Grassroots Festival”, which will be organised on a FIFA World Cup™ concept across seven cities in collaboration with FIFA and Turkish Football Federation (TFF), kicks off this week as part of the build-up to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

One of the National Supporters of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Ülker are sponsors of a project in which festivals will be played out every Friday over the course of seven weeks – spanning the months of April and May. The FIFA U-20 World Cup host cities of Antalya, Bursa, Gaziantep, İstanbul, Kayseri, Rize and Trabzon will also be hosting these events.

After receiving training from FIFA and TFF officials last month, grassroots coordinators in every city selected 1,700 12-year-old children, in association with the Directorate of National Education, and established their teams. Teams will compete against each other on specially designed pitches, while players will have the chance to showcase their talent as well as participate in coordination training exercises.

The children who earn the highest “Fair Play” ratings during the events will be given the chance to participate in the FIFA U-20 World Cup opening ceremony in Kadir Has Stadium on 21 June. The festivals will contribute to youth development in Turkish football, in parallel with a campaign conducted by Ülker since 2007. Around 8,000 children are expected to benefit from these grassroots activities.

One of FIFA U-20 World Cup National Supporters, Ülker has supported projects involving children who are regarded as the future of Turkish sports in the past, giving the chance for more than 250,000 children to play sports in the last six years.
