THE DAY REPLAYED - Of the 15 goals scored during today's four matches of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, no fewer than five of them came in the 89th minute or later. It was also a day of doubles as Alan Kardec of Brazil, Kermit Erasmus of South Africa and Honduras' Mario Martinez all bagged braces.

The big winners were Brazil, who cruised to a 5-0 win over Costa Rica, condemning Los Ticos to their biggest-ever defeat in this competition. In the other Group E match, Czech Republic earned a narrow 2-1 win over ten-man Australia in a match that witnessed penalty scored at either end. Honduras top Group F after the first round of games, following their 3-0 win over Hungary, while United Arab Emirates stunned South Africa with two goals in added time.

Brazil 5-0 Costa Rica
Australia 1-2 Czech Republic
UAE  2-2 South Africa
Honduras 3-0 Hungary

Goal of the day
Brazil-Costa Rica, Boquita 89
Although Mario Martinez's goals for Honduras were of the highest quality and arguably Arnold Peralta's shot was even better , Boquita's 89th minute piledriver just shades them. Standing a full 35 yards between him and the target, the substitute unleashed a rising, right-footed shot which flew into the top right hand corner of Esteban Alvarado's net.

Memorable moments
Sleeping policeman and a cat nap:
It could happen to any one of us. After a long hot day in the sun, there is nothing more we need than a little snooze. Unfortunately for one of the members of the police force, his 40 winks during the first half of the Czech Republic-Australia game were captured live on camera, much to the amusement of the 15,634 present in Port Said and those watching around the world.

There was also another soporific attendee of the Honduras-Hungary game. A stray cat decided to take a nap underneath the Honduras bench and didn't even arise when the coaching staff and substitutes leapt up in celebration after Martinez's goal.

Anthem and a lone voice in Alexandria:  A more stirring moment was witnessed shortly before the match between UAE and South Africa when the 14,000-strong crowd at the stadium, which did contain a couple of hundred fans from west Asia, arose as one to sing the UAE's national anthem. The local fans also gave the Gulf side tremendous backing during the entire game, which was rewarded during the dramatic finale.

This was in stark contrast to the lone Honduras supporter giving his team tremendous vocal support during their match. Fortunately for the fan with the flag, he was joined by several well-meaning locals who adopted the Central Americans - and even shared the flag waving duties!

The stat
2 -Today's fact brings together a list of No2s. UAE are the second team in the history of the FIFA U-20 World Cup to score two goals in added time in the second half. The other team was Japan, who pulled two goals back against Costa Rica in a 6-2 defeat back in 1997.

Fan's view
"Brazil were better from beginning to end, which is not a surprise, and were deadly effective in offense. They are the candidate to win the tournament. Congratulations. They were also, as always, a nice, positive winner, without undue cockiness or aggression," trejos from Costa Rica gives a sporting assessment of today's game.
