- Luca de la Torre scores equaliser in second-half stoppage time
- Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cabezas scores in each half
- 17-year-old USA forward Josh Sargent gets brace
Ecuador and USA played in a thrilling 3-3 draw as Bryan Cabezas and Josh Sargent both scored braces in their opening Group F match in Incheon at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.
The South American runners-up started their campaign with a bang as they scored two quickfire goals within the first seven minutes of the match. Herlin Leno and Cabezas struck the opening pair, taking advantage of a some disorganised Stars and Stripes defending.
USA, however, responded well to the early setback and 17-year-old Sargent scored in the 36th minute with a confident finish to give Tab Ramos' side hope. Sargent then bagged the equaliser with a header in the 54th minute after Brooks Lennon found him with a pinpoint-accurate cross from the right wing.
Ecuador then regained the lead after an error by USA goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann in the 64th minute. Klinsmann bobbled a back pass before clearing the ball right into Cabezas' path. The Ecuadorian took full advantage of the moment and guided the ball the net.
Just when Ecuador thought they were taking all three points, USA midfielder Luca de la Torre pounced on a poor clearance to drive a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net in the depths of stoppage time.
