FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup record
Through to their fifth consecutive FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, the Black Princesses will be hoping they can finally break new ground by qualifying from the group stage. Ghana have enjoyed their fair share of highs along the way, beating Switzerland in 2008 and Canada four years ago, but there have also been lows, including their three defeats in 2010 and a 1-0 loss to New Zealand last time out. That inconsistency has proved costly, though they were also dogged by misfortune back in 2014, when they narrowly missed out on a quarter-final berth due to inferior goal difference.

Road to France
Boasting a tally of five wins, one draw, 24 goals scored and just two conceded, Ghana came out of the African qualifiers with a more impressive record than any other team. They got the ball rolling with a pair of 5-0 wins against Algeria and almost matched that performance with 5-0 and 5-1 defeats of Kenya, before facing their only real test against Cameroon in the third round. The Junior Lionesses secured a 1-1 draw in Yaounde thanks to a tenacious showing, but Ghana duly clinched their finals spot with a 3-0 home triumph. Helping herself to ten goals overall, captain Princella Adubea proved key to their success, and she will be hungry to shine in France after failing to register at the 2016 edition in Papua New Guinea.

The coach
Head coach of Ghana's senior women's team from 2012 to 2017, Yussif Basigi took the reins of the U-20s last July. An experienced tactician, his previous roles include a spell in charge of Ghanaian club Hasaacas, but his greatest achievement was undoubtedly leading the Black Queens to victory at the 2015 African Games in Brazzaville – their first ever title in the competition.

The stat
1 – Ghana managed one more goal in qualifying than fellow African hopefuls Nigeria. Otherwise, the two teams posted almost identical figures, recording five wins and one draw apiece and each conceding just twice.
