Scott's inspiring journey to PNG

Travelling to the opposite side of the world, visiting Papua New Guinea to promote the power of women’s football, turned out to be an emotional ride for England international and FIFA legend Alex Scott.

Journeying to Oceania to coincide with the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016, the Arsenal defender got among the community, meeting prominent figures, women’s groups and local children, to champion the impact football can have on empowering women and benefitting society.

“The whole reason for me being here is to use , be a FIFA ambassador, get messages out there and show that – no matter where you’re from – it’s about equality, while giving self-confidence and belief in themselves,” the FIFA Women’s World Cup star said.

Visiting local schools and taking part in a local march to raise awareness of the #EndViolence campaign, as well as running girls’ training sessions, she was touched by the response she received in the capital Port Moresby. “It shows you can use the power of football to inspire in so many ways,” she reflected.

See how she got on in our short three-part documentary following her on her trip. The first can be seen above, while parts two and three can be found in the related items.
